Re: COPS car show
This. Post. Is. Worthless. Without. Pictures. :D Did some snooping around the interwebs Greg. A5 compressor would be correct for a '58 Caddy. The A6 is a popular "upgrade/swap". Although, this is a '56, here's a good picture: https://forums.aaca.org/topic/427996-rebuilding-of-an-a5-compres...

It happened again....Another BUICK sighting!
Happened late yesterday, so that's why I'm posting now. Main thoroughfare....What do I spot in the left lane slightly ahead of me? A beautiful black Buick Grand National. I believe it was a 1986. Windows were tinted, but looked like an older gentleman behind the wheel. It was either restored or a su...

Spotted a Buick on a trailer in rush hour traffic
So, on my way home from work, a few car lengths ahead of me-- I spot something! Made me think of Greg. Bouncing around on a trailer was the telltale shape of a 1950s automobile. Either blue or turquoise with a white top. I squinted (still had to pay attention to the bumper to bumper traffic) and I s...

Re: Electrolytic can capacitors
My JustRadios order just arrived. The caps are all "MIEC" brand. What's the word on those? First up is the '34 Detrola 4J, which you can see here: https://www.radiomuseum.org/r/detrola_4j.html I'm pretty sure that any filter cap I install will be superior to the 1934 originals in my radio...

Re: Electrolytic can capacitors
Bill, I like the Nichicon PZ series of electrolytics to restuff cans. They are really skinny, most 3/8 of an inch or less, even the high-value ones we use in our stuff. You can easily put three of them in a can, then hide the cathode bypass cap in the chassis, closer to the output tubes. I think I ...

Re: Electrolytic can capacitors
There have been "failures" on the CE can capacitors that have been discussed on ARF. I still am a firm believer of using modern, well respected brand manufacturers of capacitors to "restuff" or hide in the chassis to restore vintage equipment and to provide longevity. There are o...

Re: Ordering caps
If you guys ever need help with Mouser and/or ordering caps let me know. In fact, I could just give you some Mouser #'s of the electrolytics I order from Mouser. While I agree that Mouser isn't great for "searching", it actually makes a lot of sense on how it is set-up. There have been man...

Go to eBay and type in "Weller Tip" in the search box......You'll get plenty of results.

Greg,
Any pictures or model #'s ?
Every Radio Shack iron I have (or had) seemed to be a re-badged Weller.

I hope I don't offend anyone here, especially of Italian heritage , but this has to rank right up there with the barking dogs version of jingle bells.....most nerve racking song of all time...... Every year I hear this...somehow. So now you get to have it stuck in your head too! https://youtu....

Ah man!!!
I've been looking for one of those. Not in that bad of shape though! That's one of GE's futuristic "Forecaster" line. Very "thin" set with a very large speaker.

Heathkit said "Goodbye" in 1992.
I found an old article while surfing the web awhile ago. One major factor at that time was kit building and hands-on electronics were not the rage anymore for the younger generation---video games were.

Re: FM Antennas - outdoor if you can
When I moved into my current house 30 years ago, the coil-loaded whip antenna that had been marginally acceptable at the rental house did not work at all for the station I listen to. About that time a publication carried plans for a yagi built on a wooden boom with copper-tubing and 12 ga. wire ele...

Re: 2001 Buick Power Windows Fail
Being GM, I bet the circuitry is basically the same as my 2000 Impala. I have all three volumes of the service manual for my car. I'd be happy to look at and even post some schematics. The problem is, the car, and the manuals are at my storage unit....so I can't quickly access them right now. The fi...
