2001 Buick Power Windows Fail

Post: # 27342Post Hi-Fi-Mogul »

Today, both rear power windows of the Park Avenue decided not to function.

There is no sound when I engage the switches from driver
control panel or in rear seat switches.

Car guys, where should I begin ?

I could not find info on where the circuit breaker
for these is located (as part of troubleshooting).

Thanks !!!

My suggestion would be to obtain a schematic for this car to see how those windows are powered. On our old Tahoe, the driver's door window switch is a computer. It controls all the windows, door locks, mirrors, seat memory, things like that. There may be a relay somewhere, but a schematic is your surest bet so you won't chase your tail. Good luck...... ;) :D

Your Park Ave. would be the same as Greg's Tahoe. I don't remember if the other doors switches have mini computers or not, that may have been added in later models. Does the drivers doors switch panel have a lock out for the rear windows?

Being GM, I bet the circuitry is basically the same as my 2000 Impala.

I have all three volumes of the service manual for my car. I'd be happy to look at and even post some schematics. The problem is, the car, and the manuals are at my storage unit....so I can't quickly access them right now.

The first thing I would do is pop out the driver's door control panel which "locks out" all other doors when the override switch is activated and also provides the "express down" feature for the driver's door window. Inspect this module for any ingress of moisture, loose or "green" terminal connections, etc. I actually opened my module up years ago and did some surgery on it to repair an intermittent. It was actually a very straight forward circuit board with the usual suspects (solder joints, tactile switches etc).

Here is what I have.

I found photos of a used driver door switch assembly which are helpful.

QUESTION : Where will be the safest area to pry this module out ?

It has that angled front on it that has a clip (photo).

The rear tab precludes prying from the back.

I was able to gingerly pry out the switch assembly.

There is no oxidation or such on the contacts anywhere.

Is there a way to test the individual switches with a DMM ?

My good mechanic found the power window control
module was bad.

No after market part, but he said he found a good used one.

I didn't think the master driver's side switch assembly was bad, since
all of its functions for the front seat area window/mirror controls worked.

Nothing like a good mechanic to the rescue! Glad you got it sorted.....
