More Problems
The new injectors in the truck haven't done well. The first week i got a code for running rich on one bank. I erased that code it see if it would reappear. Though it hasn't, a loud whining sound is coming from the front drivers' side of the engine. it sounds like it is coming from that portion of the fuel rail. I've bought a new set of O ring seals for the old injectors and will probably be re installing them. Anyone know of a T40 torx extension bar that is at least 12 inches long?

Re: More Problems
It's not for the rail, it's to go down into the left side of the intake plenum. It's the 6th bolt that holds it to the intake manifold. You can see the slot that the opening is in in this pic.

Re: More Problems
Have you tried a T-40 3/8 drive bit with a 12" extension? Snap-On used to also make Torx bits in an extended version with 3/8 drive.
I haven't failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.....Thomas Alva Edison

Re: More Problems
A 3/8" drive won't fit the opening. It needs to be magnetic to place and remove the bolt.

Re: More Problems
Here's what I've come up with.

I got these and a 1/4" hex to square drive adapter. These looked to be the sturdiest I could find. I have a Wiha magnetizer/demagnetizer for the star drive.

Re: More Problems
They look good, Rex, but what do you think is the problem with the way the truck is running? Are the new injectors defective?

Re: More Problems
I would say at least 1 is. See what new seals with the old injectors will do.

Re: More Problems
I'm sorry you are having so much trouble with your truck. Have you isolated which cylinder is causing the problem?

Re: More Problems
The whine is coming from near cyl 5. The code reader stated that the excess fuel condition could lead to damage of other components of the engine. The truck ran correctly until i got the check engine light with the whine (much louder than the engine running) started.

Re: More Problems
With the number 5 cylinder the possible culprit, are you going to just change out that injector and see if it goes away? Using one of your old ones, or possible swapping a couple of the new ones around should let you know if that is the problem?

Re: More Problems
I will re install the full set. With the new one failing that fast, I don't trust not having another fail. Based on the results I got I would say the original problem is something else.

Re: More Problems
Sorry, Rex. I know how much you wanted this problem to be repaired, done and over with. So the old set goes back in, and then what do you suspect the problem to be? I'm at a loss.
