multimeter fuse
I've got a little Universal Enterprises analog multimeter, model M30. It has a fuse in the ohmmeter/continuity (buzzer) circuit, which uses a single AA cell. The fuse is a little glass fuse, the ca. 1/2 inch size. The fuse burned out long ago and I wrapped it with aluminum foil. That's unreliable as well as poor engineering. I had to replace the foil tonight (it's thin and easily disturbed). This is not my main device; it's one that rides in my portable mechanic's tool box.
Checking online, one source was willing to sell me the fuse for $20. Fat chance, as we say. But it did call it a 1/2 amp fuse for this unit.
That seems a bit hefty for ohmmeter service, but then if we assume a dead short, 1/2 amp at 1.5 V is .75 watts. Not sure what the little continuity buzzer draws.
Does 1/2 amp for an analog meter sound about right? (Probably better than aluminum foil, in any event).

Re: multimeter fuse
The size is like the fuses they use in christmas lights.
They have them in the plug..

Re: multimeter fuse
I know what the physical size is--bigger in diameter than the Xmas light fuses--but amp rating?

Re: multimeter fuse
I checked some of my fuses and the small fuses measure .205" X .775". Any chance that they'll work?
Re: multimeter fuse
So its 0.5 amp at 0.5 ohm
Maybe send info the littelfuse se if they made a sub

Re: multimeter fuse
I can get fuses. What I'm wondering about is its value. One of the online sellers (way overpriced for a standard glass fuse) said it was 1/2 amp. Sounded a bit high, but as I noted, that's 0.75 watts. The fuse is in series with the ohmmeter function and the continuity (buzzer) function only. Maybe the little buzzer draws enough current to need a 1/2 amp fuse.
