RS patrolman 90

I have had this little portable radio shack patrolman 90 for a while ... it plays great , it has AM/FM/AIR/UHF the other day I was tuning though the bands to see what it would p/u ... then the tuner stopped working ... opened it up and the dial cord snapped ... I have some cord and was going to re-string it... until I saw the 2 separate tuners, 4 different rollers ,and the tabs the string runs on ... the cord has to be a couple feet long! ....and to get to the dial , I have to break the string that controls the band switch... looks like it will get added to the pile of junk I have in the basement waiting on the rented dumpster...

Better than the dumpster, keep a pile of stuff until you find a kid who shows an interest. My uncle in AL had taken a course in radio repair and had a tiny shop. He would have a box full of junk parts for me when we visited. I thought they were fascinating.

Although dial restringing gives me nightmares, the hoarder in me would hate to see something that is pefectly functional tossed due to a broken dial cord. That said, your plan of putting it in the dumpster pile makes more sense than my putting it in the "to do" pile.

unfortunately like everyone else...my do to list is longer than my lifespan ....I will keep it on the shelf for another day...

Or take my advice and find some curious kid to give it to. Maybe provide a bit of guidance too. In the ham radio world, mentors like that are called "Elmers", aren't they?

Radio Shack did have some quality stuff ... this might have been back in the day... but not enough of a calling for it to be a priority ...now if it was one of my Zenith Transoceanic's then it would be a different story..I suppose I could sell it on fleabay as a parts set for repair ...
