Motorola - 1959 models SK-32 SK-17 SK-14 for sale

Post: # 3424Post Motorola minion »

I have too many of these and need to reduce my holdings. My SKR151 and SK112 are my favorites and both have vibrasonic, so these older, non-reverb models are up for grabs. The record changers in all three are original too.

While I may be far away from most of you, I wanted to post these here rather than lug them to Kutztown next May.

The SK-32 is a clean Drexel piece, desirable original and partly restored but not by me. It will need finishing touches but it does function just fine and looks awesome. The amplifier is a 3 channel with 6BQ5 p-p for bass and SE 6BQ5 for left and right. 32 watts (?) I cannot leave it out in the open, must cover the speakers in case one of our two cats decides to "tenderize" it with their claws. I want to get $300 for it. There has been one on Baltimore CL for 6 months at $900, not restored of course.

The two-piece consoles (SK14&17) use a two-channel p-p 6BQ5 amplifier and have Jensen special design speakers with a 15" woofer in each main cabinet. IIRC these were rated at 40 watts. I am ready to make deals on these :) but have considered making SK14 blonde console the companion speaker for SK-17, no match aesthetically but it will sound awesome.

The SK-17 console has a tuner, is complete in a Drexel french provincial walnut cabinet in good condition (worn faded finish) but missing its companion speaker.

The SK-14 console is phono only, is complete in a limed oak (blonde) cabinet in fair condition and also missing its companion speaker.

That SK-32 is a fine looking unit, a very good buy for anyone who's into MCM style ie: most people now-a-days!

We had a MCM 3 ch Motorola about 6-7 yrs ago, the long model with 2 big dials like a '57 Chef for controls and center 15" woofer. Had excellent sound, but the PTB decided to go Early American right about then, so we sold it locally to an appreciative new owner.

Would be awesome to get that SK32, that's from the First year of Motorola doing 3 Channel. I redid a '61 version, the SK-72?, sold it to a friend who is big into MCM furniture and wanted a record player. Now his friends want one too lol. Motorola's jut sound so nice, and they have quite the following in the Facebook Stereo Console groups.

TJ, we would welcome people from the Facebook Console Stereo groups to join us here on our little forum. We have a Motorola board. We'd be honored to have them. :D

Gotta ask... what is the piece of equipment sitting on top with the rabbit ears?

Of course, that is a SABA 8050 solid state receiver ca. 1975. I do not like slider pots but the FM presets are so awesome to use. Its low power but very good for an efficient bookshelf speaker.
