I connected the leads to a small amplifier and there
was sound when I rubbed the styli.

Yes, interested! I have a ca. 1951 that uses a similar cart. in a Webster-Chicago changer. I will be visiting where the console is located this weekend (if my brakes get fixed) and will check to see which one seems to fit.
