Bobby Vinton..."Young Love"

Post: # 24707Post electra225 »

I have the 1963-ish Bobby Vinton album, "Please Love Me Forever" on the old Imperial as I type this. It is on Epic, but I can't read the number without my glasses on. This is one of his better efforts, IMHO, although Bobby Vinton never recorded a bad note. Mr. Vinton deserves the designation as the male version of Connie Francis. The same sweet, rangy, clear voice that never struggled for a note. On this album he does a cover of the old Sonny James classic, "Young Love". Lots of artists have recorded the song, but Bobby even includes a touch of harpsichord and organ ala Sonny James. :D :D

This album may have been Bobby Vinton's contribution to country music. "Bouquet of Roses" and "Who's Sorry Now" have a distinct country flavor with double-beat bass....

Leading up to this past Christmas the local radio station (Oldies 100.5) would play Christmas music every third song. On Christmas day it was all day Christmas music. Every time I heard the song O Holy Night I tried to figure out who was singing. It finally dawned on me that it was Bobbie Vinton. Here he is singing O Holy Night:

Wow! I had not heard that. He gets up higher than Como singing that song. Only he and Como could sing that song so effortlessly. That is a tough song to sing, it goes from really low to really high in a short span of time. Wonderful! Thanks for sharing, Bill..... :D :D

There are a couple of other male singers that do O Holy Night justice too. Michael Crawford come to mind. Here's Michael Crawford from his Christmas CD which I have and it is excellent:
