Tubed? Sylvania St. Louis, MO $120

Has a Realistic Lifetime tube box in one of the photos. Is that a Garrard AT-6? My only experience with Garrards is the small platter Auto-Slim in my 63 Pilot. I had a mid 70's Sylvania set up for awhile. RS4744 receiver and a pair of AS-125B's with a Sylvania badged Dual 1216. 2 hours 1 way and it isn't a blonde Zenith.

It is in a nice hardwood cabinet in good condition. I don't see anything that says "solid state" and, considering the tube box in the photo, there is a good chance it has tubes. Good luck!

I wish it was closer! Apparently the 64 Hybrids had "Solid State Power" and also push button selectors. The lack of CONELRAD markings could be a clue though some late stage tubed Magnavoxes also lacked CD markings. I would have written it off as SS were it not for the tube box. There is also a cassette box near the platter so the tube box could be a red herring. There is a video showing some functionality with the Garrard needing some work.

You might try contacting the owner to get more information. Even the model number might help determine if it has tubes or not.

I love Sylvania stereos, and the one in your post is from their Cotillion collection. The amp/receiver is R12-5, the speaker system is AS-700-2X and dates around 1966. Not sure why the tube is there but this thing is solid state.

Interesting that you and I had similar interest in Sylvania back in the day. I had Receiver CR4744W and a pair of AS125 as well. When the AS225 speakers came out I purchased them and still have them. I eventually sold off the AS125, which I regret, but will never sell the AS225's as they are part of my component system, and I love the way they sound.

Thank you very much for the information. My Sylvania system came from a fairly local estate sale. There are times when I wish I still had the speakers. If a pair of 225's came available locally I would surely grab them. I found the dome mids and tweeters to be pretty special but a little fragile. The cone mid on the 4-way 225's should help with that. Glad you are still enjoying yours. I went through the sellers other listings for any tube offerings. Nothing.

You are welcome, Mark. I have had several offers over the years to sell my 225's but the answer was always NO. Sometimes I still wish I had the receiver as well, but my current receiver is about a 20-year-old Carver which I enjoy, and it does what I want it to do.

A pair of 'Sylvania AS-125' speakers came across my FBM feed with a price of $100 and "shipped to you" cost of $50. According to the sellers location they are in Medford, OR. The pictures clearly show a pair of AS-225's. I don't know how much the 225's weigh but my 125B's were over 50# each. If I really thought I could get a pair of 225's delivered (undamaged 2/3rds of the way across the country) for $150 it would be a no-brainer.

Well, the 225's weigh more than the 125's and there is no way they could be shipped for only 50 bucks unless the seller plans on dropping them off as they take a cross-county trip. If you could get your hands on those 225's for that kind of money you should for sure grab them. I wonder why they think they are 125's?
