I have always liked the Continental Mark series of cars. When the Mark III came out, I thought it was the most beautiful personal luxury car I have ever.

That eventually turned into the '61-'65 Lincoln, the best-looking big car ever produced for my money. At college a friend had his dad's cast off '64 convertible. It convinced me. Watching the top operate was a sight to behold, quite apart from the elegant design. Windows dropped, relays clicked, motors whirred, a lid lifted, and the top went down in a choreographed sequence. I'm a sucker for all sorts of old American cars but those Lincolns really catch my eye.

Sarkes Tarzian had a baby blue '56 Continental. The Mark III introduced the 460 to Ford cars, IIRC.

That was great! Thank God they filmed the development process. Love watching how a car was built from drawing to model to full-size clay... and the bodywork at the factory...

The Mark II is just WOW! 10k in 1956 and they lost money on every sale. The one in "The Philadelphia Story" is Frank Sinatra's actual car. The only thing I think I'd change is the barney Google headlights.

Friend has one. Been working on it for years. Says it's a glorious money pit... what old car isn't? I told him I want to drive it just once.

They got the jump on Cadillac by putting this out a year before the brougham. Cadillac responded by adding the Seville Eldorado coupe...
