Switch issues
Been working on the 1964 Astrosonic 100 I got from my niece .The problem is no power going anywhere to the set ... only the Turntable spins and works , function switch does nothing on radio or aux ... ohm check revealed my worst fears... the main power switch on the function knob is broken internally , so it only gets power when the turntable switch is on , what are the odds of finding one of these ? it is the rocker type ... I guess I could just hard wire it to be on all the time... and use the phono as the off position?... but I will search around and see what my chances are...

Re: Switch issues
If you have a LOT of time, maybe Mark Oppat could/would make one for you? Mark used to be the best there was at making obsolete switches. He may have lost a step lately, because the last few occasions I know of where people used him, he took a long time to get their item to them. The other possibility is that someone has a junker chassis that has a good switch. Good luck.

Re: Switch issues
Now I understand why the faceplate looks as it does...if that power switch was intermittent , I bet the previous owners twisted the function knob 100 times before they could get it to turn on... I was looking to see if I could find small enough decals to fix the lettering, but I think the only true fix is to find another faceplate with less wear ...

Re: Switch issues
My decal guy could fix that. He could make a set of decals, then you could refinish that gold trim. So far, his work has been very satisfactory.

I wouldn't have a clue on how to begin to refinish that brushed look...

Greg, does your guy make the decals for the whole faceplate, or just what you need?electra225 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 08, 2024 3:40 am My decal guy could fix that. He could make a set of decals, then you could refinish that gold trim. So far, his work has been very satisfactory.

Re: Switch issues
He will make whatever you want him to make. I am having him increase the size of certain graphics on the GE stereo I'm redoing. What he does for me is he will take a picture of the original and keep it for reference. Then he'll print out what he is going to make into a decal so you have an idea of what the finished product will be. If you approve, he'll make a decal. I don't know if he can screen print to metal or not, but you could ask. I put his contact information in the Suppliers board here on the forum if you'd like it. Americraft Sign Company.
To redo the silver on your bezel, I'd suggest finding some argent (that is the color/shade) paint like they used to detail trim on GM cars back in the day. You might be able to find it in a spray bomb from a company who does car restoration supplies. I used to buy it from a paint store that sold automotive paint. I would suggest you get the decals squared away before you redo the silver. That is not intended to insult your intelligence, just one of those "don't ask how I got so smart" type things.....

And, as another suggestion, you could send the bezel to me, I'd take it over to Tres, he could take his pictures, I'd bring the bezel back here, redo the paint if you'd like, then take it back over to Tres and he could do the graphics then send it back to you. You and he could work out how you want the decals over the phone or by email or text. I'd be happy to help anyway I could. That's what we do here.....

Re: Switch issues
You're not the only one who feels that way. If you can get him to follow through, he is a valuable resource. Seems to me he would either fish or cut bait, but what do I know?
Do you still need a switch?

Re: Switch issues
Would you like me to post pictures of the ones I have? They would be yours for free, just cover the postage...
IIRC, there were three switches on the parts chassis I have. You could have all of them if you'd like. I am going to visit Tres this morning to get the decals installed on my GE stereo project. I'll show him this topic and see what he says about the decals on your stereo bezel.....

Re: Switch issues
Here are the switches I have. Yours if you can use them. This chassis came from a Stereo Theater, so I believe there is an extra switch for the TV.

Re: Switch issues
None of them appear to be 4 terminals which is what I need, I thought these switches were universal in size... I found they are not ,the fold over tabs do not line up with slots in the magnavox mount, I'm afraid it might be a one off made for magnavox? the one that looks like it might work would be the one with the yellow wire on it , but it looks like only 2 terminals?

Re: Switch issues
The switch on the extreme right, between the 8 and the 9 on the ruler is a four wire switch. I put the ruler there so you could see the approximate size. The second picture shows the back side of that four terminal switch and its mounting tabs.
