RCA is playing

Post: # 18693Post hermitcrab »

Got the newest acquisition going I immediately re-capped the amplifier and got rid of the wax interstage caps, and the electrolytics ... the radio section I did the electrolytics, but it calls for about 6 .047 400 volt caps which I didn't have so ordered those.. the cartridge is shot , it plays... but it constantly cuts out on one channel unless I put weight on it then it plays OK, must be why they had dimes taped to the arm? ...This is like the phonola I have.. stereo light lights up on warm up , then doesnt work during operation...hopefully those -047's will make the difference , the 6BQ5's has a couple weak tubes , and a couple 6FQ7's are weak , I am hoping they will correct the volume problem with the radio... the phono plays louder than the radio! ...gotta crank the volume to max to hear it at the other end of the house... I am not used to these 6BQ5's outputs ... solid state units mop the floor over them as far as volume ...what do they replace these duo sliding needle carts with today?

That's a good-looking unit, Elton. Do you have other photos of the guts that you will share down the road? I would like to see what the amp and tuner look like.

That tuner has the coolest eye tube setup, I just love how those look. What changer does it have?

Not sure , it works great so I have not touched it except a little oil on the platter , I think it is a RP-218 as I said the cartridge is shot ... going to have to figure out what I can use to replace it...
