We have some fans of big cars and especially Buicks here.... There was a piece in the NYT today about actor Steve Carell, who graduated (much more recently) from my college. He was a college hockey goalie, apparently a good one. The article mentioned driving to practices in a teammate's '76 Buick Estate Wagon, so I looked it up. I had forgotten how American cars of that vintage were all hood! (The car was favored because it held 4 guys and all their gear). One of the guys recalled that you didn't steer that car, you just pointed it.

That Estate Wagon would have ridden on the 126" wheelbase shared with Electra. They had a big hood to cover a big engine.
