1963 Fisher stereo

The cabinet style and condition was what stood out for me on this one. I don't remember seeing a Fisher cabinet with such pretty wood graining. And it's currently only at $80. Low end, maybe?

It's a Philharmonic which is towards the lower end but still has the tuner.

Finish is fruit wood. My executive has the same finish. Lacquer can be brought back to a beautiful shine with some work.

That particular Fisher stereo I would own. I really like the cabinet.

It's actually a '62 Philharmonic II. 20 watts. $445 new.

How did they sound? Good? Not so good? What output tubes did it use? I couldn't see by the pictures well enough to tell what tubes were used.

I'm sure very good. I will say the Fisher sound may be kinda different than others. It's not harsh, loud or overly bass. It's crisp, clear and rolls off but holds the audible range well. It doesn't scream or mumble. Sometimes, I think midrange is a little held back on the executive. I like crisp highs but I think a lot of recordings were engineered dull. I keep all controls at 0. I figure bass and treble should be correct in the recording. My listening space is also not the best so...

Oddly, playing the same recording on factory tape, it sparkles. There is nothing like a r2r.

I've heard McIntosh separates and they really capture a range that fisher "blends" but we're talking consoles. 2 sets of speakers in a tiny cabinet here. Personally, I'm very impressed by my 500B hooked to a Garrard A. Fisher was THE upper level consumer hifi supplier of the era. Consoles, amps, tuners, receivers... they had it all. Never understood why their speakers were not well received nor did they make a phonograph... another mystery is they didn't make accommodation for a moving coil cartridge...

This was the entry-level console so I'm sure it was adequate. The president was a full $2k more than this...

Yep a P-22 chassis rated at 20 watts looks to be an all in one chassis tuner/amp ... I would take it ... but I would take any fisher.....
