In the way of full disclosure...

Post: # 15472Post electra225 »

When I got the bright idea of trying to upgrade the forum myself last fall, I read a post on a forum forum that suggested administrators establish a regular membership account, so they could access their forum if their administrator account was interrupted for some reason. Mark has installed the two-factor authorization feature for me at log in. I have to use my username, password, then get on my cellphone and post a six-digit security code to be able to log in. If something happens to my cellphone where I can't get that code, I can't get back on the forum. Also, on my admin account, I see things you guys don't see. Conversely, I can't see exactly what you see. So if you are having an issue I can't see, it's hard for me to fix it. Therefore, I have started a membership account. "maxidyne" is my username on that account. The other day after the updates, before my security thing got squared away, I had to call Bill to approve three posts on my user account so I could get onto the forum. So, going forward, let me say this. First, no member may have more than one account on this forum. We haven't had a problem with that and I don't anticipate any. I may start posting under "maxidyne" and then sign my posts so there will be no question or suspicion of hanky panky. I do that for two-fold purposes. My admin username is posted in red. Some people have complained that I hog my forum. If I post under "maxidyne" there would be no red signature. Plus, it give me an opportunity to see what you see exactly. If I make an adjustment or whatever and want to know how it looks to you guys, no problemo. Also, I am going to use the Linux burgundy style in my admin account. I like it better, even though it may not be as asthetically correct as the one you're looking at now. We'll leave this one for the default style then I can choose the burgundy style as my own preference. So I won't see what you guys see on my admin account. Make sense? I don't know if there is a faux pas doing this or not. I would like to enjoy my own forum and make whatever moves I feel is necessary to best serve the membership and community. I will sign any posts under "maxidyne" with a "225" signature. Thank you for your time and understanding......Greg

I gave myself a promotion and became a Global Moderator. This will be a redundant account serving two purposes. One, I can access the forum in case I have an interruption in my admin account. Second, I can post without the red signature. Third, it is easier to access the forum on my phone without going thru all the security I have on my admin account. It's not bad on the desktop, but on my phone my old fingers just won't move fast enough. We have redundant positions in all the critical spots. I remember when Vintage crashed, and how I felt to see us lose all our hard work. With this update, I'm trying to cover all the bases as best we can.

Let them complain. I like to see new posts from anybody. And if somebody is sensitive, they can learn how to click "delete." It's not exactly arduous or complex. Often the best way to deal with complainers is to ignore them.
