I wasn't aware of the different flag protocols for Memorial Day. Thanks for sharing, Rex.

That was the first I'd heard of it too, even after working honor guard on memorial day in the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and the Army.

Thanks, Rex, you always share things that make me think and appreciate how lucky I am to have the freedoms that I have.

I knew there were military cemeteries around the world to honor our fallen hero's, but I had no idea there were that many.

My Dad had two flag poles installed, and flew the flag all summer long unless the NE wind was howling. He was not one of those for whom patriotism meant little more than waving flags, but he viewed it as a symbol of his good fortune. I passed through a period when I was not so enamored of flag-flying because it stood for the wrong kind of patriotism. Then, my Dad's example in mind, I decided that it was wrong to let the jerks claim the flag. Now, back at the cottage on weekends, I run the flag up the pole unless the wind is howling from the NE.
