BSR epoxy

Found a BSR 260-something component changer at Mom's house, abandoned by one of the siblings. Silly me, I plugged it in to see if it would go. Nothing. So I tried to spin the TT by hand to encourage it. Apparently this one was built the day that somebody confused the epoxy container for the grease container. The TT will not budge. I will have to bring it back and apply some solvents. It has a lower-end Shure magnetic cartridge and would be useful device for a smaller system or maybe at my office.

I read somewhere that the use of a soldering gun with the hot tip applied to the bearing in the platter is effective in helping it move again. Good luck.

A heat gun, or a blow dryer works miracles too.

If heat is used, careful with plastic platters or the
rubber mat on the metal ones.

I usually opt to heat the metal spindle, along with
some solvent, if I cannot remove the spindle due to
that Brit "grease".

That epoxified grease can on occasion also be
found in Garrard changers in certain bad locations.

And on the power window regulators in the rear quarter windows in Buicks.....

Buicks and Chevys were both built in Flint. My Chevy must have had a dose of Buick grease on the vent wing-window regulators.

Wonder what kind of grease it was that turned hard like that? They must have used the same stuff on cars and record changers.

Probably low-bidder grease.
