The Lone Star Channel

This a channel provided on my ROKU lineup. I understand it is also carried on some OTA TV subchannels. They have old old cowboy movies whose rights have apparently lapsed. There are some of them that have piqued my interest, that have old western stars that I have heard of frequently, but have never seen. The first surprise was one I had only heard of on The Beverly Hillbillies, Hoot Gibson. They carry 4 of his films made during the thirties. The other one, who now has about 5 or 6 in rotation, features William Boyd as Hopalong Cassidy. It's interesting seeing these men I have heard about all my life. They have some Harry Carey films and a number of other old stars' works. That's what's showin' when I get off work at 11.30 and they are usually short enough to watch before bedtime. It looks like a bit player named Bob Mitchum did some turns as the heavy in some of the Cassidy films.

I'm not familiar with that channel. I haven't seen any of the stars you mentioned except Robert Mitchum. He frequented a shop I managed in Scottsdale. He had a big voice, but was not a very large man. Ken Curtis wasn't very big, either. Ben Johnson was a big guy, just like he appeared on TV. They were all nice to me, though. Very down-to-earth and approachable.

That schedule brings back memories. There is considerable Gene Autry fare in that list. "Fury", "Annie Oakley", boy, those are antiques.....

I have watched a few on that channel... amazed to see so many John Wayne cowboy films of the 30's and 40's most i never heard of...
