Magnavox 1961 smaller tube console

Roger, I have a schematic for a similar amp. IN STORAGE!! One of the little Trimline stereos I have has that amp. The schematic is in Beitmans, 1964, I think. I wish I could be more help. There's not much to one. You have to take the thing almost totally apart to get to the filter caps on mine.

The red wire and the tan wire with RCA jacks will be the input. The wires coming off the secondary of the OP transformers will be the output. One channel is green, the other channel black, I think, with a white common. It's been while.......

Yep this was from a GE mini console (pic) that had basically the same amp as a Trimline apparently. I believe it had the on-off power integral with the record player as it had no tuner, the square chassis cut-out was where the 5th knob selector switch would have been for "tuner", "phono", &c, on other models. So I'll need to add a power switch. The RP I have is not the one in this pic (that one had a broken arm, but should have kept it for parts ), but a V-M 1200 with a ceramic cartridge like the original, so I'll keep that feature so no mag preamp is needed. My concern for inputs was for a CD player input to be added, another pr RCA input jacks in addition the ones for the RP? and need to match mV output of the CD player?

This is the V-M (I think both were V-M 1200s?) I want to use with it. I have the mounting board too.
The AM and FM dials from this hot-chassis Westy got lost, and the cabinet was incredibly crappy (actually both were), so I decided it wasn't worth restoring. I have it's speakers for this Franken-console (GEstinghouse?) project too. I haven't decided on how to do the cabinet yet, but it will be new from scratch... I like woodworking.

Probably best to just start a thread on your GE. Moving posts tends to be confusing and harder to follow. You can reference your earlier posts, if you'd like. That will make an interesting topic.

I would add a simple function switch so you could switch between phono and tape/CD input. Experimentation should tell you whether you need a pre-amp for the tape input or not.

Back to the 2ST259 consoles shown by Dave above: it appears that smaller speakers are mounted in the narrow curved sections on each end, are the woofers bottom or side mounted? I reeeealy like that blonde one.

"Six Magnavox speakers including two 12" bass speakers". My guess would be the other four would be two four inchers per channel or maybe a four inch and a five inch per channel, along with the end-firing 12" woofers.

I can upload a picture to confirm only one 5" tweeter and 12" woofer per side.
Side firing woofers are more of a Magnavox thing I have noticed as I see more of these.

Let me check if the blonde one I repaired is available. The Mahogany one is still here being tested.

If the blonde's owner wishes to sell it I'd be v interested if the cabinet is in nice shape, and you may have the Dumont...just saw one partial pic (in the 1st post) of the beauteous blonde one.

Maybe so, woofers aimed at floor would not necessarily be good for the higher frequencies, so a mid and high range speaker needs to face forward to fill in that gap.

I will call the owner of that blond one once his mahogany one is ready.

Altec once made a "coffee table" subwoofer that had one of their 15" woofers that faced downwards. Probably to add to the surprisingly lacking bass from their big ported speaker systems with horns.

Does anybody remember the speakers made by Empire, a high-end '60s turntable maker? They were shaped like a drum table and I'm pretty sure the woofs faced down. They had an "acoustic lens" HF driver of some sort.

I remember those, I think the woofers did face down and the one I saw had a mid and a tweeter. The top was some kind of fake marble.

There were a pr of them for sale locally recently, quite cheap. I think the marble was actually real, I recall seeing them at Stereoland when I was a kid, they were pretty pricey when new.
