GE 502
This is pre-musaphonic by a year. Look at that Garrard changer!

Classic RC88, the auto tt that put Garrard on the map in the US. Nice University speaker too, this was a quality mono unit.
But WHY WHY WHY do people call anything that was made in the '40s or '50s "Mid-Century Modern"???
Heavy, dark, over-embellished, this is about as far as you can get from modern!! Sheeesh!

"Mid-century modern" is the buzz word for "Ka-ching" on ebay.........
Kinda like "just needs a needle" or "prolly just needs a tube" are the buzz words for "it doesn't work" or "I just fried the power transformer".....

I haven't failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.....Thomas Alva Edison

Re: GE 502
That's a deluxe unit for sure, I bet in it day it sounded great and probably will again if someone takes the time to overhaul it. Just about everything listed today states it's MCM. Me thinks they really do not know what MCM is.

Re: GE 502
Not only did the seller call it "MCM" but also a "stereo."

Re: GE 502
Oy, I should look at that better! Stereo
MCM
Here is the 44 Musaphonic which is a step up (more than one?) https://radioatticarchives.com/radio.htm?radio=2913
And here is the 354, a step down. https://radioatticarchives.com/radio.htm?radio=10567 so I took those pictures in an abandoned house west of York on a very early morning work trip. Never found the owner to make an offer. LOL
What I call MCM is anything that was summarily being tossed in the 70s and 80s. It could include light stuff, dark stuff, but mainly American-made stuff before the age of imported anything.

My favorite was "runs and drives", which often threw shade on a rusted-to-holy-"deleted" frame

Don't tempt me Elton, I kind of had my eye on that SC when I was at your house.

Re: GE 502
I believe the original record changher in the GE 502 was a single speed Webster-Chicago changer or perhaps a Milwaukee-Erwood changer, with the early verion of the GE VR magnetic cartridge.

Re: GE 502
I did not work on that MusaPhonic's changer at all, I just took teh chassis home due to its overall size, but I recall it was a GE mag cartridge needing the extra preamp tube.
