Mr. Firedome, here you go, a Fisher board

Due to popular demand (okay, truthfully, Roger asked for it) here is our new Fisher board. Have at it guys and enjoy.

This will be for discussing anything Fisher. Components, consoles, history, whatever. This is a change from the other console boards. We'll see how this works out. Roger has a lot of interesting tidbits that I feel would be appropriate on this board. If we get carried away and it gets messy, we'll have to cross that bridge when we get to it. Forum integrity will be a focus of this board.

And, Roger, bad as it pains me, I have the Fisher board ahead of the Magnavox board. The rest of the console boards are alphabetized and fair is fair....

I'm very glad to see Fisher take it's place alongside all of the other great console makers here!

Truthfully Fisher was the ONLY really big-name component manufacturer that also took consoles very seriously, as evidenced by how many are still out there. Scott, Pilot, S-C, Sherwood etc, consoles were made and sold in very small numbers or were only found in custom built consoles. In the last 30 years, I've had 6 or 7 Fisher consoles, 1 Pilot, 1 S-C, and no others made by any other major component maker. I've always been totally mystified that Harmon-Kardon seemingly never made a console, they were perhaps the top seller of components, but I've never seen one made by them, has anyone ever seen one? Yet Fisher sold consoles by the thousands every year.

Please everyone, contribute any of your knowledge and experience with Fisher's consoles if you can, I know there's some other good Fisher information to be shared here!

Actually, Roger, I have seen a Harmon-Kardon console. But, and this is not surprising, it was HK guts in a custom built cabinet, and it was Early American. I posted about it on Vintage at the time, now I wish I would have kept the photo. I did not care for the cabinet, it was one of those over the top kind. It had a HK receiver, Jensen speakers, and a upper line Garrard Changer. I came across it in an antique store in the Phoenix area about 3 years ago. The price was fairly reasonable if I remember and I would have brought it home if I would have had room in the vehicle. Greg, do you remember the conversation on Vintage? I remember you commented on the model of the receiver and then made a comment on the HK receiver you had. It was all tube and the amp section was PP, but they were not 6V6's. Lots of tubes and big transformers. I'll look around in the computer just in case the photo is still there. If so, I will post.

Well, sorry it look like I've already managed to mis-track things by banging on about the lack of consoles H-K in a Fisher thread. I guess my idea was to make the point that Fisher was the only component maker to produce large numbers of consoles that were more or less equivalent to the sales numbers of the major console specialists.
I'll start an H-K thread in "Other Consoles" as I believe the topic bears more scrutiny.

Thanks, Roger for starting the new thread. I was just stating I did see a HK once and the receiver in it looked like the one I posted. I was done with my comments. From that point on, a new thread is appropriate.
