Post: # 6552Post electra225 »

Why would anybody do this? It looks like it's in nice shape.

Idiots prevail everywhere but...

My Fisher was going to be parted out if I hadn't acted quickly. I could have found an amp and tuner but a CG seems to be a bit harder to reconfigure.

Electronics survive. Cabinets don't. What really makes a CG? It's the box it came in. That's the total package.

So sad, when I was looking for a CG I came across a month old ad for a nice working complete CG.....
I contacted him and he sent me these 2 photos.

I wish that cabinet was nearby. I would grab it in a heartbeat. Mine needs work and that one appears to be in very good shape.

Edit: I asked for more pictures. If it's nice enough, I might go get it. Price is right!

If you decide to get it, don't forget the trash can.

I've salvaged two cabinets, one from a 1929 Victor and one from a Maggie TV. Both went to a guy who has repurposed them with different innards. I had snagged them just to give away.

Hello Guys I sent a reply. just to see what the cost was. I am actually going through Redding with my truck in May I won't have time for Stereo shenanigans as I will be with a group of people. But a choreographed rendezvous could work. lets see what Anna says...

Hello, As expected she asked that I make an offer. Not going to do that as I am not seeing the cabinet fully so I need more photo's and I would also need to arrange a time to get it to I-5 at a very specific time. All very improbable. What do you think its worth? The one that I posted was going for 100 dollars and did not have the damage this one has. Hydro

Make an offer? It is listed under "Free Stuff". The only reason I was thinking about picking it up was that it was free. In that case I withdraw my interest.

What's it worth? A gutted cabinet in dark formal style (ie not MCM)? ... imo zero!

Its only worth would be to someone with a complete, working Concert Grand that had a damaged cabinet. Then it would be priceless

True, if they like and want that style, which most don't nowadays. Although many console styles were bastardizations, I'd have to call that one very formal, dark, and meant to complement a LR furnished with antiques such as Duncan Fyfe, Chippendale, Sheraton etc., true period antiques. Those styles are way out of favor and real examplles are selling for 1/2 or less of what they did 30 yrs ago. My aunt is an antique dealer, younger generations just don't want it, nor do they want sterling silver, fine crystal, linens. My wife can't even give our stuff to our kids, they just don't want it.

So did a Maggie CG or other models that year even come in a true MCM style? That's what everyone wants, just look at some of the ridiculously overpriced MCM consoles on eBay.

They made a Moderne version of the CG, model 1ST801.

We like the formal style typical of Magnavox cabinets. Our home has lots of antique furniture with period paintings and pictures. Light wood or modern styling would be out of place. To each his own, I guess.

Here is an ebony version of the Modern Concert Grand cabinet.
