Audio Converter Software

Post: # 6392Post electra225 »

On my old computer that died, I had a free program to extract the audio from a YouTube video. I don't have access to the old computer, I don't remember the name of the free software I used. It worked really slick, though. I want to try this again. Anybody have any ideas what I had or what I can use that is ultra-simple to use?

When extracting, are you saving to the computer with the program? If not, just run an audio out to an outboard recorder. I bet the YouTube audio is fairly low quality--compressed and lossy.

Yes, it saved the music to Downloads on my computer. Then I made a CD from what I had extracted from videos.

Long ago I was able by some work-around to save YouTube videos onto my iPod. Then they bollixed it up so I couldn't. If you find a way to download the audio, pass it on.

I have Mikey, my rented grandson, on the case. He referred me to the original one, the one on my old, crashed computer. I think his mom used the program. Since I don't have a real grandson, I had to "rent" one. I deep fry a turkey for his mom, so he THINKS he owes me. He's a pretty good kid. I say "kid" he's almost 30 years old. He is one of those people you just HAVE to like. His thing is computes. We'll see what he comes up with.

Looks like about 1/3 gazillion to choose from, using Google on "Youtube downloader." Which variety do you favor?

The one I used you did not have to download. You just logged on, then it was three steps. Downside was it only processed one song at a time. I don't trust the stuff I get on a Google search.

I have tried several of the free music conversion software offered online. I run Trend Micro anti-virus software. I get a "not secure" prompt on all of them and Trend Micro won't let me in to the sites without giving me the "big red screen" warning me of malware and phishing schemes. Trend Micro wouldn't let me use Simple Machines software when I set up this forum. I had to "pause" Trend Micro to set up this forum, but I haven't had any problem with Trend Micro since I set the forum up and got it going. The sites that charge for their service seem to make Trend Micro more happy. The sites that charge don't have popup ads, so this is part of why Trend Micro is more happy with them. When i was setting up this forum, all the "free" open source software with popup ads made Trend Micro send me a "not secure" warning. The website I used before for audio conversion doesn't exist anymore according to what Mikey and I have both come up with. That figures, since it worked real well. The answer for me, in the short term at least, will be to go with one of the sites that charge. Here are a couple free sites that made Trend Micro go nuts, but were free. Maybe someone else can get some good from them if they don't run such a picky anti-virus software. I appreciate Trend Micro, since I'm not smart enough to get myself out of a mess.
