What you're missing is gullibility, I think. Common tubes like that usually turn up much cheaper on a Google search. You could buy a couple old AA5s and scavenge them for the tubes for the price of one of those.

AES used to have TV tubes for a reasonable price. I don't see them listed anymore on their website. AES is close to me, I like to give them some business. I buy repop output tubes from them, JJs or Electro-Harmonix and find them reasonable. I was shocked to see the prices of everything else. I don't see how they stay in business. With the cost of shipping, I figured maybe a local place, although higher priced initially, might be more economical in the long run. Perhaps not.

AES has always been high, they used to advertise in Vacuum Tube Valley mag when I wrote for it back when they concentrated mostly on old radios, but it's all about guitar crap now. John Attwood of VTV who owned One Electron transformers also sold through them. On the few occasions I need tubes these days I'll buy from Jim Cross in FL, he's very reasonable. I used to be irked that back then that AES never had an 800 number when we still paid high long distance phone rates to place an order.

I remember when AES was owned by George Fathauer and was on First Street in Tempe. George would talk you thru a project if you were having a problem. His shop was small and rather disorganized, but he could put his hand on anything he needed. George was good to me and I liked him, so I try to do business with what is his legacy facility. They sure don't make it easy sometimes. They are as reasonable as anybody else on new tubes. And I've had good luck with those.
