Magnavox 1ST616 console stereo

Post: # 3756Post electra225 »

There was a discussion about the different amps used in the different models of Magnavox console stereos. Shown here is the 1ST616 that I took totally apart, refinished, then put back together. This is the first cabinet that Ron the Refinisher used polyurethane over shellac on. Still gorgeous after nearly 6 years. This stereo has the 88 series amp. This is the lowest-priced console stereo series that Magnavox built with a P-P amplifier. It's a robust performer with a rock-solid FM tuner. IT has FM-AFC, so that is a big plus. It has two four inch front-firing speakers and a 12" side-firing woofer per channel. The tuner and MPX chassis is on the right, the amp and changer on the left as you see it here. The photo on my computer says "dangling wires" so this must have been before I dressed up the sloppy factory wiring. The gray wire dangling is for the tape input. Then the antenna and external speaker wires that attach to the cabinet back. Care should be exercised when removing the cabinet back. If you let the back fall to the floor with the external speaker and antanna wires attached, you can pull the antenna wires out of the tuner, not a good situation.
