This is the model I like. They made more than one version of a GE stereo with Garrard changer?

I got the pictures reversed. The dark cabinet one belongs on the top. The blonde one is almost $1500!

The blonde one is exactly what I have in my laundry room except mine is walnut. The blonde one also has GE's extra box thing, called a Porta-fi. You can see it in the photo of the back. It goes hand in hand with GE's remote speaker that gets it's signal thru FM and the electric wires in your house. That Porta-fi would make it more valuable but I'm not sure that much more. And, it would only be worth it if you had the extra speakers. Here's a You-tube link that talks about the Porta-fi:

If you have Windows 10 on your computer, right click on the picture, choose "resize" then choose the top option, the 2.5 MB size. This should let you post your pictures. If the pictures were taken with a phone, it's a good bet they are too large.

I was only aware of the GE model with the foldout speakers having the Garrard changer. I had not seen the walnut version before that I recall. I really like that style better. It looks like the guts are the same. The blonde one may be priced a tad spendy at $1500, though.

EDIT.....I changed a setting, hoping to alleviate some of the trouble you guys were having posting pictures. I posted a picture on "Chat" that came straight off my phone without resizing. Try your pictures again, let's see if the change helped. Thanks...

Looking at the walnut one on Greg's link it looks like it only has one speaker per side. I can't tell if there is a tweeter present or not. The fold out units have two woofers plus a tweeter per side. Not sure if the guts are the same or not. I have the Sam's for the one I worked on so I can check model numbers and see if they are the same.

I just took a look at the Sam's. The model number of the walnut one is not listed on the Sam's that I have which is for the blonde one or the one I have. I do see a difference between the two control panels. The walnut one does not have the "scratch filter or null balance switch". Also, I just noticed the walnuts speaker looks larger. Maybe 10"? The blondes speakers are 8". I would be interesting to see the back off the walnut one, and, to see the speaker enclosure with its back off.

Notice that most often the super-overpriced console listings are in CA., $2000 to 4000 is not uncommon. I suppose because A.) there's so much loose money there (insert CA woman joke here)... and B). perhaps when even crappy houses sell for over a million bucks they are just used to paying stupid money for everything. You couldn't PAY me that kind of money to live in that place, climate be damned.

you can download a photo resizer in the google play store that will resize your photos from your phone ... it works pretty good ...

Question for you, Chris. Have you had the back off? What size speaker is in there, and does it have a tweeter? I'm just trying to make comparisons between your model and the one with the swing out speakers.

I'd guess the built-in speakers would sound better than the swing-out types, their enclosures are much larger, and perhaps better drivers.

The back was off long ago when I recapped it (well, filters at least). Memory is faint. I'll try to peer inside later today. Seems to me there was a little tweeter in there.

The big speaker may be a dual-cone, then a little tweeter, about an inch and a half in diameter.

If I recall it either uses a 6x9 and a tweeter, or a 6" standard woofer and tweeter ... been a few years since I had the back off mine... but it sounds just as good as my little stand alone floor model record player # GE RC3100...in fact I think it has more range then the rc3100

Perhaps an eight or ten inch woofer with a whizzer cone and a little tweeter? I thought one of Don's Trimlines had an 8 with whizzer cone and a little metal tweeter, but I could be wrong..

you could very well be correct... I know the little floor model RC3100 I have only uses 6x9 speakers on each side ....

The outlines in the grille cloth show a round speaker was why I mentioned the eight or ten inch speakers. I tore apart and ugly old GE stereo that had 6X9's in it with those little metal tweeters. It didn't sound too bad, but it was mud ugly. It was one that you could get an optional TV in. The one I took apart never had the TV. The cabinet was "mystery wood" which was two steps down from particle board and plastic. I still have the guts, amp, tuner, wiring, speakers and the "custom" turntable with the wide tone arm.

I just braved the snow & ice to go out to the shop & check mine. 8", no tweeters.
