"Bentley's Buggy" broke....

I have a 1986 Club Car DS golf cart I built from three junkers. They were used in a canoe rental business and had an extremely hard life. I got them at an auction in a little burg in Missouri, one of thousands in that state where the "you are entering" and "you are leaving" sign is on the same post, Galmey, MO. Just north of Pittsburg, MO, in case you were wondering....

I completely rebuilt this old golf cart. Every piece, every part. New tires, new batteries. Our little white dog, Bentley, literally took his last breath on his "buggy". So, yesterday, I plugged the charger in to the golf cart, nothing happened. Wondering whether the charger had quit or if the buggy had a bug, I got on Google, trouble-shot the system, determined that the charger wasn't getting enough voltage from the golf cart to make it work. I pulled the charging port out, found it beyond burnt to a crisp. The original part, still had the "Lester" logo on it. Tomorrow, I get to spend $75 to get it fixed. The golf cart place quoted me $1047 to come get it, fix it, bring it back. I'm told a dryer plug will work, but I don't need a kluge. I want the right part.

Hope the repair worked out allright. I've bought 2 sets of solder cup battery terminals to replace the cheepie weepie clamps the factory crimped on the battery cables. I had to get an extension torch for a butane bottle to invert the torch in the battery compartment.

I got the part today. They changed it since that golf cart was built, so I had to make a trip to ACE hardware so I could make it work. So far, so good. I put new wires from the charge port to the batteries, since the old one looked pretty bad. I don't believe I've ever seen a bakelite device so totally burned up. I'm lucky it didn't cause a more serious issue.
