Out of boredom this evening I decided to check out eBay to see what might be available in VM. Much to my surprise, I found two consoles. One I have already thanks to Elton spotting it, contacting me, then buying it and holding it until I could come pick it up. Thank you, Elton, you saved me lots of money. That will be the first one I post. The second one is the Grand Daddy of all VM's, and it is within driving distance, but not for the asking price. Remember, I am cheap!

The VM that I have, model 580 first photo, is waiting restoration. This past year I did get around to refinishing the tops of the speakers, plant/water damage, so it is getting closer to the electronics making it to the bench. Maybe this winter.

Bill, I found the same console on facebook and he has it listed for $995. I know that's a lot of money, but you may not ever run across one like it again. He has 208 ratings with an average rating of five stars so he must be a very honest and dependable seller.

It says it's drawing 300 watts so it must have a really healthy amp in it.

Thanks, Danny, even at $995.00 it is still out of my price range. Remember, I am cheap. VM model 1001 is second generation, first generation was VM model 1000. Both units use the twin mono block PP 6BQ5 amps with center tap AO transformers. Jensen speakers. First generation the tuner/preamp was built by Harmon-Kardon. Second generation was by VM.

If anyone wants to go back in time, go back under VM until you find TJ's post on his VM 1000. You will find his links to his and you will be able to see what the tuner/preamp controls look like.

It is a great sound, very well built, very heavy, and probably worth the money, just more than I want to spend.

You'll run across a VM 1000 when you least expect it and when you don't really have time to deal with it. Of course, if will be so cheap, you'll move heaven and earth to make it yours. It is supposed to work like that, you know...

Thanks for the info, Bill. I fully understand what you mean about being cheap because I fit into that category too. I found the thread about TJ's VM 1000, and it looks like an awesome console too. Somebody is going to wind up with a special console when they buy this one.
