I admire this piano playing technique by The Killer. Arguably one of the best three-finger piano players of all time. Notice how he hits the keys with the tips of his fingers on his right hand, chops with the side of his hand with his left hand. Miss Dorothy, my piano teacher, taught me that this was not "a piano playing technique" although I'm sure Jerry Lee sold a few million more records than Miss Dorothy did. I never did get the hang of doing this.

Re: Miss Dorothy would rap his knuckles....
JLL was an American original. The piano is a remarkable instrument, serving almost all kinds of Western music. I've got two wonderful DVDs of Sir Andras Schiff playing books 1 and 2 of Bach's Well Tempered Clavier in Royal Albert Hall, an hour and a quarter each from memory. Rachmaninoff wrote magnificent music for the piano with more notes than almost anybody else. I must have 5 or 6 recordings of Bach's Goldberg Variations on piano. It's music that is important after 300 years. I've got recordings of Thelonious Monk playing his own compositions, American treasures. Behind many blues and R&B and traditional jazz performers (usually way too low in the mix for my tastes) there will be really cool piano. The guy who broadcasts our weekly blues show has learned to call out the piano player, when credited, so I don't have to email him about who it is. Maybe Black Bob Hudson, Thomas A. Dorsey.... And of course there's Jerry Lee, just going wild. So much good music, one thing that redeems us as a species.
