I'm a radio guy. My collection of LPs and CDs is large, but it's the radio that is 99% of mu listening. If I'm home or in the truck, the radio is on. A weekly must-listen is Nick Spitzer's American Routes from New Orleans. Tonight's show focused on Hi Records from Memphis and their rhythm section and roster of memorable R&B artists. One of my old favorites, an artist who flies a bit under the radar, is O.V. Wright. And then there's Al Green. I have a real thing for Al Green. The show includes interviews with the rhythm section members and with Green. We learn how the B-3 accompaniment on "Love and Happiness" came about. One lesson is that producers really matter, as do the good instincts of professional musicians.
