This GE cabinet style was a new one for me. Intriguing but the requirement of 7189A tubes could be expensive down the road. If I remember correctly, there was a popular Scott integrated as well as a Stromberg-Carlson amp that requires these. The only 7189A tube that I have is a GE so not surprised to eventually see a 7189A amp with their name on it. The record vacuum pump is interesting. There is an operating unit on FBM with a 10 second video.

Those are interesting units, with the vacuum cleaner built in. Are you now the proud owner of this beauty? If so, congrats, Mark.

The 7189 is a souped-up 6BQ5. It allegedly will handle higher plate voltage than the 6BQ5. I have two GE chassis that use the 7189. That vacuum system is supposed to suck the dust off records.
I realize I consider myself a Magnavox collector, but I am impressed with the little GE stereos of most any description. Some of the wood cabinets are really chintzy. Made with mystery wood that is essentially not repairable or refinishable. The Trimlines are cute and fairly simple, but it's easy to get a couple hundred "hard" dollars into one if you fix it right. I wouldn't worry about the 7189's. Modern production 6BQ5's will handle up to 450 volts on the plate, depending on which ones you get. They are $50 for a matched pair of JJ's. I haven't decided whether I want to sell my little GE's or not, but I have had a ball working with them and find them well worth the effort.

I haven't failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.....Thomas Alva Edison
