Goodwill Find...

Post: # 1808Post hermitcrab »

I have a goodwill next door to where I work.. occasionally I will go in and see what they have in vinyl records ... on the way to look, I walked past a shelf with this sitting there... wait... does that say 5 bucks? .. it sure does , had to bring it home for that price... doing a search on HIFI Engine brought up the owner's manual, and service data ... claims it is rated 25 watts per channel , and being a KLM from the 70's it is made in america... one of the push buttons will not stay depressed, and one channel on phono is dead ... hopefully a easy fix for both...I guess I could have put this under finds as well but it is a component...

Not positive but KLH's electronics of that vintage may have been made by Harmon-Kardon, except for the speakers of course, and changers.

both problems were a easy fix... the push button the little spring came off that holds it on , fixed that... the phono issue was a open cap in the preamp ... this thing plays beautiful... service lit says it is from 1973... this was not my best find at a goodwill ... did I mention the Pioneer RT-707 that I paid 24.99 for about 2 years ago... and about a year later a sony 300 cd carousel changer for 24.99 I usually don't buy from goodwill as I think they screw over the employees working there , but sometimes it is impossible not to grab this stuff when it comes up... I got about 6 bucks tied up into this ... whadya all think ... list it on fleabay for $500?..

I wish I could buy a 300-disc Sony CD player for even $50 dollars. CD's are allegedly obsolete, you the players are the big money on fleabay or wherever. I'm in the market for a couple, if you ever run across more.

I was lucky , another guy looked at it before I did , but he did not pull the trigger ... I had to buy the remote for it , but it was easy to find on amazon...currently is connected to my homemade fisher ambassador, we just turn it on random , and you never know what will come up next... just like a jukebox... you can get the 5 disc tray changers all day ... I have a couple CD cartridge players...6 cd's to a cartridge .. pioneer and kenwood and JVC... fun fact the cartridges are proprietary to the manufacturer , they look the same but so you can't swap a cartridge from one machine to another...
