'54 Chevy Bel-Air 2 door hardtop

Post: # 17827Post electra225 »

I had a car just like this one time. Seriously. I'd not seen another like it until I ran across this video.

My dad drove "Shevalays" or "Shivvies" depending on how he wanted to say it. Grandpa got me a Buick when I started driving, and dad was having none of it. Dad found an admittedly nice, low mileage car like this one. 235, Powerglide, radio and heater. Kem-Tone bathroom blue and white with blue and white interior. Kind of a pretty car in hind sight. It had power steering and power brakes, rather rare options for a Chevy. I hated that car with every bone in my body. Slow as pond water. IF you were going 40 and you floored the accelerator, it would slow down to 30. It drove like standing up in a bathtub in a lake. It screamed "cheap old guy", even back in 1965. I drove it once, parked it and that was it. I drove the Buick and kind of rubbed dad's nose in it. I have wished many times since that I had done things different and that I still had that slow old Chevy. I saw this one being redone and thought of the one I had.
