Delco radio, a loose definition of "stereo"

I realize the radio snoots turn their noses up at these sets, but I like this style myself. I have always wanted a Delco radio. This one looks Stewart-Warner-ish to me. Although it's not stereo, I'll bet it sounds good with that big speaker.

I'm always amused when any device that plays a record becomes a "stereo." And yeah, I've got a few of those late 40s-early 50s consoles too. Not fashionable,to be sure, but interesting.

Most of this style are good performers. I don't know why the radio snoots turn their noses up at them. Somebody, sometime, somebody who posted negatively about them most often, set the trend.

i was poking around at my '48 Philco today. It will have to be moved soon. The 78 era gave us a tolerance for limited HF response and generally crummy phono performance. There were some exceptions, like E.H. Scott, but the mainstream manufacturers did not do much to stretch the envelope. it was not a period of exciting change for the better. Some of the RF performance was admirable.

I never knew GM made home radios (oompahs).

Sure, frigidaire/Harrison refrigerators etc but not a consumer home radio/phono.

I don't believe GM actually built home radios. Many were made by Stewart-Warner and probably other manufacturers. Delco Radio built car radios as we all know. GM sold radios under their United Delco division. Some of the big Delco radios were impressive.
