"Frozen desert"

Post: # 16464Post electra225 »

Good grief! First, half gallons went to 56 ounces. Second, they quit making my favorite ice cream. Now, ice cream ain't really cream. "Frozen desert" is fake milk ice cream. Blue Bunny is no longer real ice cream. So, I buy Great Value, which is still a real half gallon and is real ice cream. Why can't I have high cholesterol whenever and however I want it? Why all this silly "plant based" fake food? Can you imagine setting around the ice cream freezer back in the day poking grass clippings into it to make "frozen desert"? My relatives would have run you out of the county..... ;)

I was never impressed with Blue Bunny. Got to read those labels! Breyers may be 'all natural', but it has a very low cream content. Even back in the 1960s when I was a kid, there was "ice cream" and there was "ice milk".

The premium brands have all gone to plant-based ingredients. The cheaper or store brands are still the real thing. A half gallon of orange juice is 52 ounces. You have to watch that stuff, as well. A lot of it is "based" on real fruit, "real fruit flavors", "natural ingredients". I guess putting hay in your orange juice would be all-natural, assuming the hay was real...... ;)

Store-bought meat is so tough I can't eat it. Like swallowing straw. Pork and chicken are naturally tender when raised right. We buy at a local pork shop that sells meat grown locally and tastes like the real thing. The meat is trimmed too close to suit me. Fat is what gives it flavor.

As a guy with plugged-up coronary arteries, even after stents and control of diet and taking of statins, I am pretty much in the rabbit-food category now. And yes, it gets boring. Most of the time I figure better bored than dead. But last night I had a yen for tasty food after smelling the new restaurant upwind from my dinghy site when I went sailing. OK, time for a break from the diet. But then I remembered that I had not put any cash in my pocket before I headed to the boat. Maybe the burger joint a block from the house? But no, they closed at 8. So I settled for a homemade fish chowder, with sinful real butter added for thickening purposes. And some salt, too. Let's get all the sinning done in one fell swoop. The cardiologist told me a long time ago that if I stuck to the diet regularly, the body could handle the occasional departure.

Since I am good at making bad health choices, I'll probably meet my maker from eating ice cream and bacon instead of taking drugs. I've been wrong before and can't see that changing in this lifetime.....

The title of this thread reminds me of Utah in the wintertime.
