Tube tester

Picked this up at Salvation army today. Got them down to $30 from $40. Maybe not the greatest snag but how often do you find one?

I once got a military (Navy) TV-10 for free from an ex-Navy radioman but stupidly sold it about 20 yrs ago... D'oh.
Now I make do with a little B&K 607 from my late Uncle's estate, works well enough to at least sort the wheat from the chaff.

Well, it's not working. Meter has no reaction so gotta open it up. If the inside looks as good as the outside, I'm sure it'll be easy.

NRI (National Radio Institute) equipment is good. I have two identical NRI VTVM's that an elmer gave me. I don't know who built equipment for them, but it was not junk. It was used to train radio and TV repairmen back in the day, you got it with your NRI course. Good luck with getting it going, I'm sure it will serve you well.

I thought that NRI's test equipment was kit built as a part of the student's training.

I think some of it was. I wonder who manufactured it? The two VTVM's I have include a sticker saying they are "factory wired" whoever the factory was.....

I have the front end of an NRI radio kit. I have been robbing parts out of it for years. I think they sent those kits in pieces so the student could learn the functions of each part. I don't have the power supply and I don't have the audio section.

I guess it's at least time for a recap after 70 years. The case is beautiful. I think that alone was worth what I paid.

Looks nearly new. Could perhaps be built by Heathkit, which if it's a kit would make sense, it looks similar to some of theirs.

Let's try again... lost my first try. I've gt two emissions-type testers like that, one I built from a Heathkit and the other a sale find by Knight. They are the same basic design as yours--a scroll device for tube data and a row of three-position switches. They vary only in the tube sockets provided, as tube types evolved. Others in photos are the same. Was this just a design convergence because the basic function was the same, or did somebody design one and then everybody copied it?

11/16/53 has to be the build date. I swear I'm the first one to see the inside of it since then. There's a little "23" in pencil on the inside of the lid and another inside the case to keep them matched.

Need to check the fuse at least. Outside of that. I hope the transformer is still good. Certainly doesn't smell burnt.
