Cooking on the BBQ grill

Post: # 15471Post electra225 »

We put new kitchen cabinets in recently. We have no countertops, no stove, no microwave, no water in the kitchen at all. We wash dishes in the bathroom. I found a plastic dishpan at Walmart that just fits the sinks in our master bathroom. I have been doing all the cooking-----on the BBQ grill. I have done mashed potatoes, a fratata, lots of hamburgers and that kind of stuff. TV dinners work well on a BBQ grill. It says to cook them 45 minutes in an oven. 30 minutes is plenty on the grill. We use the side burner as a range. Heat regulation is pretty good, but it's hard on cookware. You really need cast iron cookware if you don't want to ruin it. You have to use more moisture cooking with that side burner, because it gets the sides of the pan hot. A glass top stove only heats the bottom. The handles get hot, too. We get the countertops installed Friday next with the appliance install a week later. We have the procedure down and it has all gone fairly well, all things considered. I miss the ice maker in the fridge the most...... ;)

A kitchen reno can be very disruptive. I've done a couple but never a complete re-do. Good luck.

They put the counter tops on this afternoon. We get to wait until Wednesday next to get the appliances installed and the water connected in the kitchen. Tonight we are having fried chicken, mac and cheese and brussels sprouts all done on the barbie. It actually works pretty well, all things considered. ;) ;)

Nope, everything on the grill. Came out pretty well. You need to start brussels sprouts earlier than the rest. They didnt' get done. Fortunately, you can't hurt brussels sprouts. We'll heat them up longer next time....

We got fried chicken at the store. We divide up the chicken, enough for one meal in each package. We freeze it. When we want fried chicken and are using the barbecue grill, we wrap the chicken in aluminum foil and use a pie pan on the grill. That works pretty well. 300 degrees for thirty minutes is plenty. I start the mac and cheese on the grill, then move it to the upper rack. It gets too warm on the grill.

We have the kitchen back together. After spending big money on cabinets and installation, the first time the wife used the stopper for the sink drain, it broke. This was a high-dollar "designer" sink fitting. Not worth two cents. Made in a foreign country out of mystery metal. Where the stopper mechanism was crimped to the basket, it came apart. So I made a trip to HD, got a $37.00 basket in the correct color, then installed it in about 15 minutes. The outfit that did the installation did a nice job, but their "warranty" is wishful thinking. We have a genuine American Standard part there now, so it should be better. Happy wife, happy life........ ;) ;)
