Avatars
I would like all members to post an avatar with their username by July 1 of this year. There may be fits and starts getting this done to 100%, but we need to start somewhere. I'm not going to require locations, but a location with your username is certainly recommended. While we are a small forum, we pretty much know everybody's location. If/when we start gaining members, we may revisit the issue. Thank you all for your kind attention to this request.
If you would like assistance with this or if you have questions, please feel free to Private Message me or a Moderator.

Re: Avatars
I've just added birth date and location. I tried to add my YouTube channel but kept getting error notices ("YouTube has invalid characters"). Am I good to go now?

Re: Avatars
I have tried to insert an Avatar on several occasions but have never been successful. I'm probably doing something wrong, but it won't tell me what I'm doing wrong. I'll try again when I have a free minute and if it does not work, I will reach out to you Greg for help.

Re: Avatars
Roger is right. You need a picture over your username. Bill, you had an avatar on Vintage. I don't remember what it was, but you had one. I'll be happy to insert an avatar for you if need be. Everybody having an avatar will make the forum look more uniform and will add graphics. We don't need street addresses or anything like that. Just something to give a general idea of where a member is located is sufficient. I should have explained what an avatar was. Nothing obscene, of course. I use the Magnavox coat of arms for mine. Chris, you could use a picture of your Chevy or of your boat and that would be fine. Or if you have a picture of an old device in you collection, that would be even better. You can add an avatar if you click on your username at the upper right hand corner of the index page. Click on "user control panel" then go to your avatar. We went thru avatar picture size and that very early in the life of the forum. You might refer to those early posts for more information on that. The forum software should give you a prompt if the image you are using is not the right size. If you need more information, post on this topic or contact me via PM. Thank you all for your cooperation.
Complete instruction I should have included earlier. Click on your username in the right hand upper corner of the index page. Click on "user control panel" then click on "profile" then click on "edit avatar". The forum software will prompt you to insert your image much in the same way you post images to the forum. Any questions, contact me via PM. Again, sorry for the inconvenience this may cause and thank you all for your cooperation.

Re: Avatars
I've tried to put on something more different/fun that's 53 KB in size (not a lot) as my Avatar, but I still always get the "size" message. I have no idea how to re-size stuff, but can the acceptable size the site will accept be "up-sized" so it's not a problem?

Re: Avatars
I have it set as large as the software will let me. Cellphone photos are a problem, they are huge. It's not hard to resize a picture. If you have a Windows 10 computer (I don't know about Win 11, but assume it's the same) you can resize the picture after you download it to your computer. Right click the picture and a box will come up that gives you options on how to resize. If you look at the size of our avatars and those on other forums, you'll see how big ours are in comparison. I like large pictures and large avatars. If you get the old "it's too big" message on the forum, resize the picture like I just explained. I had to do that to mine. Any questions, I'm here to help. You guys can email me your pictures if you are having problems and I can post them for you.
I found a post back when the forum first started. It gives good information on avatars.

My avatar is 235 pixels wide by 180 pixels tall. I'd think if you sized your image like that, you'd be golden.

Re: Avatars
I just added an avatar--my 1956 Provincial Serenade with the '86 Mustang behind it-- a two-fer. The pic needed to be resized so I used a free online program, defined the desired size, and saved it.

Re: Avatars
Thank you, Roger. We need to use your avatar for a header image! Wow! That is cool looking....

I use a 32" flat panel TV for a computer monitor. Avatars on the forum are about 4" square on my monitor. Having avatars on every post looks impressive.

Re: Avatars
Here's another similar one.
The cool one I'd originally intended to use I somehow managed to mistakenly delete in the process, now I can't find it, it may have been "borrowed" from a post on diyaudio a few years ago, if I can find it again I'll use it.
The pic is sort of relevant as I figured my originally car website-related name of "firedome" made sense here too as tubes are sort of "firedomes" as well lol.

Re: Avatars
I have a "Magnavox" avatar with a car-themed username myself. I like the blue glow in the tubes. I have a Magnavox chassis that is really pretty red when it runs, but doesn't look as impressive as the blue.

Re: Avatars
I appreciate you guys working with me on avatars. We still have a few who haven't gotten their posted, but sometimes it's hard to make up your mind and not everybody has a collection of pictures handy. I would like to have them all done by July 1.

Re: Avatars
For those without photos, maybe suggest that they borrow an online photo, from an ad or whatever, and use that?

Re: Avatars
Or perhaps someone on the forum would have one they'd be willing to contribute to the effort. If one off the 'net is being considered, they can be appropriately resized per the instructions I posted in this topic.

Or they could try this free picture resizing site, which I used:
