Re: Garrard 440M series
I need to get back on topic.
The glued on spindle seems stable enough.
When the new idler comes in, I'll check out
its function.
I don't want to have to place the heavy platter on
and off of that spindle more than once, as the
spindle has sliding parts that will partially hang up the
platter when its coming off.
I think the owner will have to limit placing only one
record at a time on the spindle.
Too much record weight might eventually break the glue bonds.

Could you use epoxy? That might be a stronger bond.

Agreed, expoxy would be stronger.
I didn't have any, and I thought I'd use
what I have.
It's illogical, but I have so much time in this
thing, that I don't want to go buy any epoxy
unless I have to.
And illogic frequently bites one's back side, ha ha !

Re: Garrard 440M series
I never have any when I need it. The shelf life is pretty short in most cases. It hardens before I get it used, so I don't spend the money for it. Then, of course, I need some....

Re: Garrard 440M series
No, this is a V-M product. GE had nothing to do with them. V-M just put GE cartridges in this high-end model of their lineup. V-M was no stranger to 4-pole motors--their tape machines were full of them. The "GE" in the model no. simply reflects that it came supplied with the plug-in head and GE cartridge. Scroll down here to "1225GE."

GE was one of the first big magnetic-cartridge suppliers. Their "VR" cartridges series (variable reluctance) started with mono and moved into the stereo age.

Re: Garrard 440M series
The idler wheel and stylus came today,
were installed, and the spindle is holding well.
I will recommend they only play one disc at
a time, using the Auto function.
And being careful when they remove the
record off of the spindle.
If it does not hold, I have finished a BSR that
can sub out for the Garrard.
