FB market place is the new craigslist
The last couple items I was interested in, I contacted the sellers, tell them I will take the item , they acknowledge ok ... so all I need to know is when and where to finish the deal... then nothing ... no reply even after repeated attempts to connect with them .... its like they play a Jimmy Hoffa and are never heard from again... so if you are going to ignore the buyer why bother posting anything at all?... ok another rant over...

Re: FB market place is the new craigslist
If the listing was newer, and you were first to reply with more than the standard one click "Is it Available" message, they may have thought they underpriced the item. I've had similar happen. Days later found they were wanting to turn their listing into an auction. I don't reply to FBM auction scenarios.
I utilize my wife's FB account for the few FBM items purchased in recent years. I try not to abuse that privilege. Most have gone quite well, but there were some outliers. I should seriously consider getting my own account, but this arrangement has probably saved me some cash and space.
When it comes time to rotate out some of my audio, having my own account will be necessary. CL here isn't what it used to be.
I think it's probable that some of the same folks(of little etiquette), who were originally listing on CL, have now migrated to FB. At least on CL there was a chance that responses were caught in a spam folder. With my limited knowledge of FB, and since you received a response, there shouldn't be anywhere for your return messages to hide.

Starting this year Facebook has agreed to send 1099's to sellers with $600 or more sales so the IRS can collect tax or at the very least make you list this on your taxes and it will be up to you to show original cost and profit. That was when I decided to stay away from FB marketplace.
