This Weekends Project
A few months ago, I got and installed a new LED ceiling light for my kitchen. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08GF ... 8&th=1They came as a 2 pack, so I had been looking for a way to use the spare. At the thrift store last weekend, I found a halogen torchiere lamp like this one https://www.bing.com/images/search?view ... ajaxserp=0 I thought I'd remove the dimmer and bulb holding parts and adapt the lamp to use the ceiling light. I got a few rocker switches and got an extension cord and did the surgery today. I still have a functional halogen lamp and the difference between the two is great The halogen's light is almost amber in comparison to the LED's. Finally, the halogen is 350 watts and the LED is 24.

I have LED's in the shop. They don't take much power, but they are noisy. I like them in the house. I'm going to change the two lights over my bench back to incandescent bulbs. LED bulbs are getting cheaper and better. And in fairness, the lights in the shop are adjustable for brightness. I believe the controls are what is noisy.

The controls are noise makers. That was another vice of the dimmable halogen circuit in the lamp.

Here are a couple of pictures of the light it throws and the light itself.

The second photo looks like you are looking at a full moon laying on its back.

Well, Rex, I reckon you should know that you are a hero!
My wife griped about the miserable lights in the ceiling fan in the living room. She uses that light a lot, since it is on remote control. I brought some candelabra (sp?) LED bulbs home from the store and installed them in the ceiling fan. LOTS brighter, LOTS. Happy wife, happy life.......
Thanks!! It had those curly flourescents in it, 40 watts each X6. The LED's I put in are 8 watts each.

Re: This Weekends Project
Great project Rex, bouncing light off a diffusing flat white ceiling is optimal lighting IMHO. I spent 23 years designing lighting for commercial building and schools, etc. Been messing with lights all my life and LED buries just about everything. The odd failures of LED drivers and connections of now-DC (versus AC) to LEDs will cause many issues as they succumb to galvanic corrosion.
Drivers replace electronic ballasts and yet the EMI/RFI issues persist. FCC "consumer" grade equipment is not stringent enough to address issues like that. In contrast, inductive magnetic ballasts only caused RFI if a starter was malfunctioning on a trigger start T8 or T12 fluorescent lamp.
I used that same torch fixture for a project I made for my Dads home office. That was 17 years ago using a 12" circular T5HO fluorescent. The ballast was like a big matchbox and fit in the lamp's center. It generated a bit of noise on FM if the radio was not across the room.

Re: This Weekends Project
Thanks everyone. I'm looking for another similar light to do the halogen lamp. They make dimmable single lights with color temperature selectors that look interesting. I wonder if they would be compatible with the lamp's original dimmer? I've put the re-lamped light in the bedroom. Even with darkened windows, it looks like daylight in the room with it lit.
