I've told the story about the 1948 Buick Roadmaster convertible that a customer of mine bought at Barrett-Jackson one year. To make a long story short, I was asked to evaluate the car, sitting on the auction field, and give my opinion of worthiness to my customer. Jerry and I walked around it, peeked under the hood and inside, inside the trunk, then just barely glanced at the underside. In the same breath we turned to each other and said "auction whore". Basically the bottom of the car and the floor boards were corregated cardboard and Bondo. There were no guts in the radio, just the face plate and knobs. The crankshaft of the engine went in and out about a quarter of an inch when it ran. The paint, a too-gray "oops" version of Seafoam Green was gorgeous. Dark green leather interior and wool carpets was pristine. And incorrect color, but still flawlessly executed dark green convertible top. We said "no sale" the customer bought it anyway for something like $150,000. IT barely made it to my shop. The rear end was junk. We spent another couple hundred grand getting it right.
I follow Uncle Tony's YouTube channel. He has some interesting cases coming into his shop. And he works with other colorful characters who do old cars. This video is one of the more outstanding as far as content goes. IT shows what flippers do to move cars and make a buck. My little story is not an isolated case. I thought somebody might like sharing Uncle Tony's videos.
