Dumont Victoria "Perma-Tube" console stereo

Here is a fairly rare one. A Dumont console stereo with a TV. The cabinet is pretty beat, but what a beauty it would be redone. When was the last time you saw one?

Never, and it's in Holland Michigan. I wonder what happened to the changer. It looks like it has 12" woofers. Was Dumont, Dumont during this time period or had they been purchased by someone? I hope someone out there snaps it up, but I'm afraid at that price it will end up in the dumpster.

I don't remember for sure when, but Emerson bought Dumont. I'm guessing this is an Emerson-produced Dumont. The tuner knob looks strange, now that I look at it closer. Surely that's not the right one? Wonder what changer it used? Sharp-eyed changer guys might be able to tell by the design of the plinth (I really don't like that word for some reason ) It won't sell for near the asking price. I sure hope it finds a good home.

It looks like a 5U4 for the rectifier and single ended 6BQ5's for the output. The plinth and the 45 adaptor are wrong for a VM changer. I'm guessing Garrard. I agree, the channel know does not look right.

She is a rare one , but they would have to lower their price ... by a lot ... no changer also hurts it... maybe drop the zero off the price...

Looks like it haas the same SE 6BQ5 amp as the '62 DuMont that I had and put pics of on here, but it's now in good hands as Dave MM has it. It's a nice console with above average quality furniture, 6 all Jensen speakers, and a Garrard AT6 that was original and works perfectly. I still have that TT now in another base that I had, so put in the working Garrard Model 50 that had was in that base in the DuMont for Dave (a freebie). It was an Emerson product so they had bought DuMont by '62 at least.

Thanks, Roger. I knew Emerson had bought Dumont, but was not sure of the time. So the one pictured is in the 1962-'63 era, then? Would you care to hazard a guess as to a model number?

The pictured tuner/preamp looks identical to the one I had and Dave has now, and from what I can see of it the amp looks the same and the description also matches mine which is a '62. I looked it up online and found a similar one but with MCM styling, mine was EA and of course had no TV. Dave could tell you the model #, needed a re-cap but actually worked and sounded pretty as-is good thru the AT6, the tuner string was off so AM/FM wasn't able to be tested. For what it was (SE amp, 10" woofers) it seemed to be a nice console for background listening, sorry can't tell much more. Stereo DuMont consoles seem pretty thin on the ground, I'm glad Dave was able to take it on!

Dumont was known to place the TV chassis upright on the side of the cabinet like that one is. I'm sure it's a good performer, but the Dumont part is why it should be saved. You just never see one in any condition. I've always wanted a Dumont TV.

I do not know why, and it's so close too, this one just does not interest me. I hope someone ends up with it, but I believe there will need to be a price reduction before that happens.

For sure. I'd be more interested at $65, than I would at $650. No way, even totally restored and 100% working perfectly, is it worth what they are asking.

After they re-list it enough times I suspect $75 cash in person waved under their nose will take it. I can vouch that it sounds pretty nice, depending on speakers (which aren't specified), mine had 2 x 10", 5" and 3" speakers, all w/ Jensen EIA codes. It looks like a 10"er possibly lurking behind that chassis.

Wonder what is meant by Perma Tube... there's no such thing.

Maybe "Perma Tube" means it will always have tubes, it will never be transistorized?
