Try again on the photo. It showed up in "preview" but not after "submit."

A clean-lined classic looking craft. To me how a boat looks is very important.
Our Vanguard is a nice sailing boat but not the prettiest thing in the water,
but since she was free we didn't look a gift boat in the hatch.

I like fast so big boats bored me back to younger days. The modern DN could be classified as a vertical airplane as it sails on the extreme end of the "apparent". Photo is at 60 in 12k of wind ! If had many a fast car, none satisfy like this ride and very eco friendly !

My summer ride is the only experimental class remaining, the A class catamaran who's parameters lie within an 18' waterline and 30' stick. They evolved from the English Capricon and introduced believe it or not as the "Michigan A", a Jon Lindahl effort. We all introduced ourselves to the "stitch-ply" epoxy methods of the famous Gudgeon Bros. of Bay City. Autoclaved carbon has brought these boats to another level. My Melvin A3 below would weigh in excess of 300# with yesterday construction. This boat is 152# all up !

These boats do wind speed upwind and double off the wind ! All made easier with bendy modern composites.

I love iceboat pix showing the extreme mast bend that controls the sail shape & power.

The sensation of speed and acceleration is enhanced by lying just inches off the ice. 20 years ago a friend and I had our boats on W. Grand Traverse Bay in the spring. I had my sail and runners in my office and I'd hop across the street and sail after work. One day the ice was soft and it would shatter as we sailed. We both looked like we had measles from the ice chunks hitting our faces at speed.
