Re: Fisher X-101-ST amplifier
Update: I was not satisfied with the bias mod that I did and decided that adding a filament transformer for the phono section's tubes was not going to be that easy. The sound was good and the 7189s no longer red-plated but I wanted to use the phono input. Last year, I had restored another Fisher amp...

Re: Some advice, please, re E-46X-EA
Here's a link to a Fisher console that Hotwax and I repaired a couple of years ago. https://www.classichificare.com/viewtopic.php?t=1061&sid=b6c6e91969f1177ac776900cd7a84b19 Fisher made some very nice equipment that is not difficult to restore. The cabinet looks like it is good condition so the ...

Re: Arvin 460T repair
I keep some of my projects and sell others so I don't fill up the house with stuff. I sold restored radios at a local antique store for about four years so a lot have come and gone. Several years ago Hi-Fi Mogul and I started tag teaming repairs, he does great work on record changers and I took care...

Re: Arvin 460T repair
Thanks, I had to take a break from repairs to catch up on home projects. Now that summer is in full force here, I can get back to indoor activity. Here are some more of my projects from recent years: https://technosaurus.neocities.org/projects I have done a lot more but often forget to take photos a...

Arvin 460T repair
Just finished this little Arvin AM set from 1950.
I "needed" a small project and wanted a reason to update my website.

Re: Fisher X-101-ST amplifier
After putting a JJ 5AR4 in the fisher Statesman that I worked on, I read numerous accounts of that brand failing catastrophically. So I replaced it with a NOS 5AR4 from Matsushita. I found a mod that puts diodes in series with the rectifier plates that will allow for the not so durable new productio...

Re: Fisher X-101-ST amplifier
The 7189 is a higher voltage version of the 6BQ5 so a 7189 is a good sub for the 6BQ5 but not the reverse. The 7189A has a slightly different pinout so they might not be 100% compatible without some wiring mods. http://www.nj7p.org/Tubes/SQL/Tube_query.php?Type=7189 http://www.nj7p.org/Tubes/SQL/Tub...

Fisher X-101-ST amplifier
X-101-ST_front.jpg My latest project is a recent e-bay purchase, a Fisher X-101-ST, one of Fishers first stereo amps. This was the earlier model that did not have separate tone controls for each channel. The 5AR4 rectifier had cracked and the power switch was shot as many Fisher switches are. All b...

Fisher Statesman console
Hi-Fi Mogul was recently contacted by someone seeking repair help for a Fisher console, and asked me if I wanted to take on the tuner and amp repair. What she has is a Fisher Statesman console, Model S-70 with the SA-100 amplifier that she acquired at an estate auction for $200. Hi-Fi Mogul took on ...

Re: Restoring an old Hi Fi console: what's involved?
Thanks, building the website was fun and a good way share information on restorations. I learned a lot over the years on various antique electronics sites just from reading and got through some tough problems by asking more experienced members. Help here is dispensed freely just for asking, so feel ...

Re: Motorola Trio
I have 2 "keeper" tube amps, a Fisher 500B and a RCA RS-177H. I am always looking to acquire tube gear to repair and find uses for, the Motorola amp was too good to pass up. By passing on finished products to others that will enjoy it, I keep my repair/fabrication skills up and when comple...

Re: Motorola Trio
It's at Hi-Fi-Mogul's house , looking to sell it eventually.
It sounds great, this is the 3rd one of these Motorola amps that
I've had. I have even built one from scratch to the schematic.
Here's a closeup of the turntable:

Here's the latest joint project with Hi-Fi-Mogul: We took a Motorola extension speaker, mounted a PP 6V6 Motorola amp inside and topped it off with a Motorola Turntable that I made a custom base for out of a veneered particle board plank. I moved the controls off of the chassis to the side of the ca...

Restoring an old Hi Fi console: what's involved?
From my website, here's a step by step restoration of a Westinghouse console:
https://technosaurus.neocities.org/West ... /index.htm.
I restored the amp and tuner and Hi-Fi-Mogul did the changer restoration.
