Classic Hifi Care

I put the question mark after the model of this radio, because the tag is mostly gone with the model number. This radio came from an auction where I got a pickup load of sets at an auction in Pittsburg, MO in the rain. I paid $3 for the whole lot since the audience had left and the auctioneer was desparate for a bid. I have this radio with the purple cabinet and it's a model 425. This is another of those dandy-performing cheap GE radios. This one has four octal tubes plus a seven-pin 12BA6 IF amp. It has a fairly large speaker and sounds good. I like these little cheap GE radios. This radio didn't need anything to get it going again. The general condition of this set is about a 7 out of 10.

That has an interesting design, I like it.

The dial light is mounted on and follows the dial pointer. The dial pointer has little relation to the actual station. I have two or three of sets similar to this one and all the dial indicators are off. They are close at one end, not so close at the other end. Maybe a complicated alignment would fix that, but it doesn't bother me. The radio in the picture is on 1430 KC. The pointer is about 1380 give or take.

My big Motorola stereo table radio has the same problem with accuracy for the dial. It's not even close, which really surprises me for Motorola. Like you Greg, it really does not bother me and I do not see a way to fix it.

I'm impressed as to how white... the white cabinet is after all these years.. must not have been subject to direct sunlight too much otherwise it would be a yellow...

I put the cabinet in the dishwasher when I first got the radio. It had been in a building used as a machine shop and was covered in black, greasy dirt.

I never thought about putting something in the dishwasher.

I removed the chassis, speaker and the back, of course. Crist Rigotti runs TV chassis thru the car wash....

I'd like to see the purple one! Whoo!
