Classic Hifi Care

This is a diagram a friend of mine did for me that
indicates how many older record players are wired.

This may assist where the wires are missing or cut
or hacked.

There may be an AC On/Off switch that is part of a volume or
tone control potentiometer, that gives power to the amp and the changer.
Or a separate power On/Off switch.
Many combinations were used in vintage hi-fi's.

Record changers themselves will also have an On/Off
switch as part of the control lever that turns on power to
the motor and engages the record changer cycle.

On many Voice of Music record changers up to the early
1960's, the AC switch underneath the changer has a
fiberboard black cover. Sometimes a metal cylinder cover.

Taking off the cover will reveal the AC leads from the
motor and to the amp, soldered on the switch.
Then you can see where the wiring goes.

Thanks Hi Fi Mogul, we need to make sure nobody gets tripped up by AC wiring before we go into the weeds here.

Since I can post a photos here, I am working on five Magnavox Collaro changers. These have two somewhat different wiring methods (U.K.-design) but follow the same sequence of operation: if the motor is powered, so is the amp.
