This is a video of a model 1700 Voice of Music changer in a Philco console stereo. I found it interesting how the changer worked. It appears to stop the platter, the spindle starts spinning then drops the 45 rpm record, sets the tone arm on the record, then the platter starts. I hadn't seen that before.

That is a cool changer, it kind of works like a Garrard Lab 80. Does anyone know if they made it as a turntable/changer to plug into components? I guess I should check Gary's site. Yep, they did. According to Gary's site the first one came out in 1966 and, the last 1971. There are changers that do not show photos on his site so one of those might also be that model.

Thanks, Bill. How does that thing work? I'd like to see it with the platter removed.

I would bet this was the top-o-the line changer for VM compared to all their other simple changers

I looked up Sams 937 folder 8. That Philco-made amplifier had a 56 volt power supply, which is alot more powerful than a budget priced Philco (that I bought and sold) with nearly the same control panel, minus those cool buttons! The VM 1200 series record changer was nice looking enough in black and silver, but nothing like VM-1700 in this video :) .

When I initially got the schematic out on my budget model, the output transistors were tiny and only a 12 volt supply. It sounded OK, but not much more.

The Glaser-Steers model GS77 in my 60 Philco is supposed to have that functionality. Mine isn't ready for prime time, but I've seen videos! :) Wasn't aware VM had a model with those capabilities. Very cool. Thanks for posting.
