Magnavox Early American in Maple

Here's a Magnavox Astro-sonic in Early American, and in Maple. Roger, this could be for you. I found it in the April 1967 brochure. 40 watts of power, 15" woofers and horns. It's called "The Bunker Hill", and it's model 3800. It shows to be 50" wide.

Thanks Bill for the pic! That one's a little overdone for me, I like EA but prefer ones that are simpler in style, not too florid, like my DuMont (pic 2) or or this GE (pic 1). I passed on that GE in Syracuse about a year ago, and wish I hadn't. I'm nor sure Mag ever made a simply styled EA console, the next post shows an EA Maggie I found, but again it's a bit over the top for me.

Another Maggie EA, not too bad but again it's still bit more elaborate than I prefer.
These are what I like to call "Fauxlonial", much of the Colonial Early American furniture in modest homes was simpler, more primitive or like Shaker in many respects, not the Chippendale and Queen Anne that rich people had. There were many variations of what we simplify now as Early American; I prefer the less ornate pieces. One of my projects is to start making Shaker reproductions in the next few years, while I'm able. I've been too caught up in finishing our VT camp for the last 15 years, but it's getting closer to being finished.

Thanks, Roger. I like the first two photos, but, have never cared for EA with the column look. Like you, plain is better. My RCA ST has the shutter look on the sliding doors, and, probably for you still a little too elegant. It was my grandparents so it's special to me. The must thing to have in EA, is Maple. Nothing else will do!

Is the Zenith behind the roundie a Zenith Stereo Theater? I recognize the controls as my other grandparents has Zenith color with the same controls. There's was in French Provincial.

Yep that Maggie with columns is a bit much. My DuMont is a fairly low-line console but I like the understated EA look.

That is indeed a stereo theatre in that one pic belonging to Dave "MotorolMinion" who kindly restored and traded the '66 roundie to me. He's working on a gorgeous blonde '61 RCA for me right now, he's a real wizard when it comes to early tube color TV!!
