Unused Magnavox Stereo Theatre-Stow, Ohio

Post: # 4553Post danrclem »

This is a rare piece and probably belongs in a museum. It's stereo but where are the speakers? Is there a speaker behind the diamond shaped opening in the front? I'd like to take a look at it in person.

Side-firing speakers, maybe? If you look at the frontal picture, you can see the track where the sliding door goes. The piece with the triangle is the sliding door that hasn't been put into the track? And there may be an external speaker you need to make a complete set. That is a rare piece, no doubt, but, unfortunately, there isn't much market for it. They seller will be fortunate to get a fraction of the asking price.

There could be some woofers on the end and I believe you're right about the sliding door. One set of speakers is probably behind it. I'd say there has to be a companion speaker that should belong with it to make it stereo. What amazes me is that it is supposed to be unused and having the original box with it. I guess it would be considered NOS.

My question, where has it been all these years?

Update! It is called the Stereo Theater 300 and appears in the 1960 catalog. The ad states it has a 21" screen, 8" woofer, and tweeters. It is all self contained and the photo shows a speaker grille cloth on the TV side of the cabinet. It's listed as model 1-MV1721. The ad does not mention anything about a sliding door to cover the TV.

This is true, and the rubber in the record played could still get hard and need replacement as well I'd imagine

Like an old car... WORST ones are the ones that sat... I know, I bought one... car, that is...

I'd rather try a gently used unit than nos... I'd be afraid to even plug this in.

Wow, what a find to whoever discovered this boxed unit. I wouldn't be up to paying that price to be first one to operate a 60 year old console since it left the factory. It wouldn't surprise me if someone did though. I would love to hear the sellers story though behind this. Can't be that many boxed consoles to be discovered. Thanks for posting Danny!

Hello, It would still need a full recap and alignment due to age. However if your looking for a stereo theater that worked as good as possible and you had a set of these to add to it it could be really cool setup. https://inlandempire.craigslist.org/ele ... 73446.html

It's interesting how two of these two piece Magnavox units are for sale at the same time. I posted this eBay find in California just a few days ago.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/265492639524?h ... SwC7Vh2zOO

It's actually part of a three piece stereo theater with the TV being a color set. See my post under "finds" and two piece Magnavox.
